Language Instruction Policies - Public Group Classes

The following are the policies which govern our public group classes. These include the children's Spanish classes (Spanish for the Family and Spanish Explorers) as well as adult group classes with enrollment open to the public.

All students/parents should review these policies prior to enrollment in a public group class. Registration in a group class indicates agreement in full with these policies. A complete copy of the IFLA Language Instruction Policies is available by request.  Please contact us for further information.

General Policies

Because every student and every learning situation is different, Indy Foreign Language Academy cannot guarantee the outcome of instruction received.  While our instructors strive to provide the best educational experience available, we cannot guarantee the speed of a student’s learning or how much information will be retained from classes. In situations where a student is studying for a test or receiving tutoring assistance with an outside class, we cannot guarantee that the student will pass the course or the test.

Class Cancellation Policy

Public Group classes may not be cancelled or rescheduled at the request of a student. Public Group classes are cancelled only in the event of inclement weather (see Inclement Weather section.) In such a situation, the duration of the course is extended for one additional meeting for each meeting missed due to inclement weather. A student who cannot attend a scheduled class is not eligible for a refund of any sort or a rescheduled session.  A student who is unable to attend a session of a public group class may, however, contact their instructor or IFLA to request a summary of what was covered during the class, so as to prepare for the next scheduled class session. Any additional assistance, including checking the student’s homework or offering additional assistance after class, is at the discretion of the instructor.

Tardiness

Sessions of Public Group Classes will begin and end promptly at the scheduled times, regardless of the number of students in attendance at the session. If no students have arrived by the scheduled start time, the instructor will wait 30 minutes before he or she leaves.

Payment Policy

Payment in full is due before the first class session.  No student may begin a public group class until payment has been received in full. The payment for any and all required materials is also due before the first day of class.

Acceptable means of payment include MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express, personal check, money order or certified check. Checks should be made payable to Indy Foreign Language Academy. Payments may be mailed to IFLA at:

Indy Foreign Language Academy
11495 N. Pennsylvania Street, Suite 270
Carmel, Indiana 46032

Pricing/Refund Policy

No refunds will be given should a student wish to discontinue his or her classes after the start of a course or package of classes. The IFLA Group Class Schedule for the applicable session will detail the course fee for each of the available classes. This information is also available on our website. Please contact us for specific textbook fees. Students will be notified of the textbook fees for their course prior to the first day of class.

Class Scheduling

Sessions of Public Group Classes are scheduled by the Director prior to public advertisement and enrollment. They cannot be rescheduled at the request of a student unless the instructor and all other students in the course agree to the rescheduled time. No attempts to change the advertised class schedule will be made by IFLA until after the registration deadline has passed and the class roster is finalized. If the group does not unanimously agree to the rescheduled time, a student who cannot attend a class meeting at the scheduled time is not eligible for a refund of any sort or a makeup class.  Students wishing to enroll in future public group classes may make suggestions or requests that the class of their interest be held on a certain day or at a certain time, but IFLA does not guarantee that such requests will affect the scheduling of public group classes.

Expiration of Classes

Public Group classes are scheduled for specific one day, or 3-8 week sessions.  Sessions end on specific dates.

Inclement Weather

IFLA is concerned for the safety of our students and instructors. In the event of inclement weather in the area, please tune to local television and radio stations. IFLA observes the same closures as IPS (the Indianapolis Public School system). If IPS issues a one-hour or two-hour delay, classes at IFLA with a start time before 10 a.m. will be cancelled. If IPS issues a school closure, all IFLA classes will be cancelled for that day. If IPS dismisses their schools early, all IFLA classes after 5 p.m. will be cancelled. Students may contact IFLA at any time to confirm the effect of inclement weather on their classes. Every effort to contact students and alert them of cancellations due to inclement weather will also be made by the IFLA.

Holiday Observances

IFLA observed the following holidays each year. As a result, no classes are held on these dates (or the holiday observed date) and the offices are not open. Because of anticipated instructor unavailability, some holidays affect public group classes held on the surrounding days. Students who are unsure about the schedule for their classes should contact IFLA.

In 2010, IFLA will be closed on:
